Accessible virtual mobility

چکیده
Students’ mobility is one of the main means for achieving internationalization of higher education, thus enhancing course quality and promoting intercultural understanding. Virtual mobility exploits ICT to enhance the opportunities of international cooperation and exchange, allowing students to take part in the activities of a foreign university without traveling. There are different types of virtual mobility, including virtual courses/seminars co-organized by partner universities, joint virtual programmes, virtual internships, and online support activities to physical exchange. Virtual Erasmus aims at fostering virtual mobility by bringing virtual exchanges within the well established Erasmus framework. Virtualization is typically used in virtual campuses to enhance accessibility of higher education. This paper focuses on the relation between virtual campuses and virtual Erasmus to investigate to what extent virtualization may enhance the accessibility of international mobility programmes by addressing linguistic diversity, policy constraints, information asymmetry, personal and social needs, disabilities, and digital divide. All the above accessibility issues have been addressed by the so called worldwide campus model, which has been adopted by the online BS degree program in Applied Computer Science of the University of Urbino, which will be used as a case study throughout the paper.

Depth-To-Audio Sensory Substitution for Increasing the Accessibility of Virtual Environments
As most computerized information is visual, it is not directly accessible to the blind and visually impaired. This challenge is especially great when discussing graphical virtual environments. This is especially unfortunate as such environments hold great potential for the blind community for uses such as social interaction, online education and especially for safe mobility training from the sa...
متن کاملEffects of hydrostatic pressure and temperature on the AlGaN/GaN High electron mobility transistors
In this paper, drain-source current, transconductance and cutoff frequency in AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistors have been investigated. In order to obtain parameters of exact AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistors such as electron density, the wave function, band gap, polarization charge, effective mass and dielectric constant, the hydrostatic pressure and temperature effects a...
متن کاملEnabling People with Visual Impairments to Navigate Virtual Reality with a Haptic and Auditory Cane Simulation
Traditional virtual reality (VR) mainly focuses on visual feedback, which is not accessible for people with visual impairments. We created Canetroller, a haptic cane controller that simulates white cane interactions, enabling people with visual impairments to navigate a virtual environment by transferring their cane skills into the virtual world. Canetroller provides three types of feedback: (1...
متن کاملActiveworlds: geography and social interaction in virtual reality
This paper examines the interrelation between the geographical and social aspects of virtual worlds. We examine the main geographical features of Activeworlds, a multi-user virtual environment available over the Internet. Activeworlds is not only one of the most popular virtual environments, it is also the only publicly accessible one in which users can build themselves, and thus shape their ge...
متن کاملA Virtual Distributed System Architecture for Supporting Global-distributed Mobile Computing
This paper describes a Mobile-distributed System Architecture for supporting wireless data accessing. The concept of a Mobile-Floating Agent (or Mobility Agent) with it's notions of service/resource mobility and service pre-assignment is proposed. This Agent utilizes a mobility prediction algorithm to enable a mobile computer to be aware of its current location and potential locations (availabl...
